Southern Living weighs Charlotte Vs. Tampa

They have shores, we have banks? For the August issue, Southern Living did a matchup comparing Charlotte, home of the Democratic National Convention, and Tampa, home of the Republican National Convention.

The Observer's former columnist Tommy Tomlinson did the essay duties on behalf of the QC, while the magazine also did a lineup up each city's credentials as a place to party. (The early version I saw still listed the kickoff party at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which has since been moved to Tryon Street uptown.)

Among the recipes: Two versions of wings (left wings and right wings) and some cocktails with truly cringe-inducing names (Bourbon on the Baracks for Charlotte, the Grand Old Fashioned for Tampas, and the Muddle of the Road for those who are staying out of the whole thing.)

Get an early look at the SL coverage here.

There is no comparison. Charlotte to Tampa is like comparing Granny on the Beverly Hillibillies to Christie Brinkley.

"Just like Tampa, minus the Yankees and alligators." Tommy, Tommy! There are more Yankees here than in New York City! You got it wrong, my man. Signed, Charlotte Native. P.S. Why no mention of Rock the Red, an event for Republicans trying to get away from the convention in Charlotte? That's where I'll be.

There are as many Yankees in Tampa as there are in Charlotte. they are both about 30 minutes from the south. So that is really a moot point.

From the article-

"Tampa means "large men playing games," with the Bucs, Lightning, and Rays entertaining us year-round. Tampa means "flavor of Cuba," "values of the Midwest," and "friendliness of the South." It means "I had some issues up North, so I am starting over here."

.....slow clap

Both are pretty cool - but I'll meet in the middle and take the big ATL!

Remember Charlotte is full of "Half Backs"...People from the North go all the way to South Florida and realize it is too hot and they come Half Way Back...thus half backs. That is how we ended up with so many Yankee's in the first place!

Charlotte is boring - period.

As a Yankee, I can hardly wait to take my money and move back North. As I suspected before I was recruited to move here (apparently there aren't enough intelligent people in the South to work in anything beyond low-skilled labor jobs like textile mills) - all of that BS Southern "Charm" is just a smoke-stream for regional bigotry.
