Cooking Uptown closed?

I was sorry to hear about the apparent closing of  Cooking Uptown, the kitchen gear store with cooking classes near 7th Street and Hawthorne Avenue in Elizabeth.

Although there's no sign on the door and I haven't been able to reach owner Karen Cooley,  one former cooking teacher told me the store closed in October. The website is inactive and the phone number is disconnected.

If anyone knows of future plans for the store, drop me an email at kpurvis@charlotteobserver.com.

  1. Yep, and I've got a $60 unused gift certificate for them. Great.

  3. I also have an unused gift card of about $75... a little warning would have been nice!

  4. I also have a $100 gift certificate from there that I got a couple of years ago and haven't used yet...I live an hour and a half away and just haven't used it...

  5. I too lost a rather pricey gift certificate b/c they closed. Seems they were pretty terrible at doing business if they were getting all this 'free' money and still couldn't stay open.

  10. I'm glad it's closed. The owner was a you know what. I went in to get knives sharpened one time on a day they sharpen them and she told me I was wrong and was so rude and disrespectful. Way to treat your customers. That was 3 years ago and I've never stepped foot in the store since. Would be nice to have a Sur La Table in there. We need one near uptown.
